It’s finally here! The continuation of 2018’s Death of Superman, the second death of Superman movie from DC and the second most disappointing which isn’t saying much considering how disappointing the first movie was.
For the record, The Death of Superman was disappointing on its own.
This time around, DC is documenting the Reign of the Supermen, the inevitable resurrection of Supes that everyone saw coming and the rise of Steel, Superboy, The Eradicator, and Cyborg Superman.
Amazingly enough, after such a disappointing and unsurprising first part, Reign of the Supermen is brimming with energy and originality.
It’s been decades since I read the comic so perhaps it’s just my own forgetfulness, but I found myself enraptured by the twists and turns in the story and by the characters.
This is a complete 180 from the previous film. Where the first felt constrained and obligated by the source material, this one feels free to take liberties and, as a result, has more fun. You never really see where this one is going.
I loved it. There’s really not a lot more that I can say without revealing the plot which is, as I said, not only an improvement over the previous movie, but also, in my opinion, an improvement over the source material.
