Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse

Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse is, more than likely, one of the best comic book movies ever made inthat it looks just like a comic book without looking completely stupid. Looking at you, Ang Lee’s Hulk.

The movie follows Miles Morales, a black-latino teenager in Brooklyn as he learns how to use his new spider powers from a Spider-Man from an alternate universe who is a 40 year old loser.

This is a great movie. Out of all of the animated films I saw this year oh, this one is definitely my favorite and it is amongst the best of the best of the Spider-Man movies. I stopped short of calling it the best Spider-Man movie, because it’s brand new and I’m not sure if my heart is ready to make that kind of commitment. Needless to say though, Sony Pictures has actually got something right for once with their animated movies and actually looks like they’re done screwing up Spider-Man for now.

This movie is a feast for the eyes and, even more important than that, provides us with a story that we can get invested in and characters that we can care about. I enjoyed every visceral second of this wonderful movie and I hope that any sequels that come my way are just as good.
